Kaiser Foundation for Social Development-STEM Construction Summer Camp 2018 kicks off August 26th!

The Kaiser Foundation for Social Development (KFSD) is pleased to announce the commencement of her 3rd edition of STEM Construction Summer Camp. This event is scheduled to hold in Lagos for a selection of secondary school students from various states in Nigeria.

The aim of this program is to introduce the various aspects of construction to the students. The ultimate goal is to encourage the participants to build a career in construction and increase local content in the industry.

This year’s program themed “STEM GIANTS: The Future is Ours!”, commences on the 26th of August, 2018.  Our 36 participants range from J.S.2 to S.S3. Some of the schools represented include: St Peters Unity Secondary school Akure, Ondo State; St John Model school Fugar, Edo State; St Johns College Jos, Plateau State; CKC Onitsha, Anambra State; Eric Moore High School, Lagos among others.

The pilot program of the STEM Summer Camp took place in August 2016 with the theme “Construction Can Be Fun” with 32 students participating from seven secondary schools around Nigeria. It was a huge success for several reasons including the fact that the percentage of students interested in building a career in construction grew from 20% before the camp to over 70% after the camp. Most of the participants were already speaking in construction terminologies by the second day of the Summer Camp, with many exhibiting an impressive level of technical knowledge.
